Rasanthi Rathnayake
Centre Manager - Greenwood North Ryde
"The best part of my role is being there for the children each and every day, sharing in those moments of learning and discovery."
I began my early childhood education and care career in 2012 and started working at Headstart West Ryde Children’s Centre in 2016 to 2018 as an Early Childhood Teacher in the preschool age group. In October 2018 I moved to Greenwood North Ryde as an Assistant Centre Manger. I also managed the service as the Acting Centre Manager in 2019 before going on parental leave. In April 2022, I commenced my role as the Centre Manager. I hold a Bachelor of Education in early childhood and have worked within the early childhood sector for 12 years in various settings. I also hold a Diploma in Montessori education, First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis and Asthma Certificates.
In my career, I have worked with children from all age groups, enjoying various roles and throughout my career which has provided me with great understanding, knowledge, and an experience. As a mum of four children, I understand how much every parent is wants caring, loving, safe and naturing environment for their children. Being part of education, the best part of my role is being there for the children each and every day, sharing in those moments of learning and discovery knowing that we played a part in them developing that understanding.
I have learnt that children are active and unique learners, and as teachers, we need to adopt a collaborative approach to planning being flexible and involving them in the process. Providing opportunities for all learning styles in the environment is critical for the most inclusive outcomes.
I believe that the environment serves as the third teacher. Through engaging set ups and a curriculum that is driven by children’s interest, voices and thought processes, we are allowing children to be capable learners. As they take ownership of this curriculum, they become motivated to persist and master skills that are the key to their development. Through provoking self-discovery children can create meaningful moments in their lives and we are empowering them to foster positive learning skills and a passion for further discoveries.
Early childhood education is one of the best ways to help child develop the social, emotional, and cognitive skills they need to prepare for primary school and beyond. With endless opportunities and experiences provided by our early childhood educators, the children can immerse themselves in a learning environment that is stimulating and exciting.
The educators at Greenwood North Ryde are extremely passionate about creating a centre that is a home away from home for both families and children, where our team celebrates the diversity of all cultures. Our team also value the importance of strong partnerships in meeting the individual child’s needs and respecting each family as unique. A culture of continuous improvement is evident within our team of educators through a commitment to professional development, reflection and implementation of contemporary learning and practices.
Communication is the key to all we do. We value any communication from families and ensure we communicate equally back to them. We use several platforms for communication including our Xplor app and email. On top of this we always remind families they are welcome to phone the centre whenever they like to get a verbal update about their child’s wellbeing, especially when their child is still settling in. Our team cannot wait to meet your family and begin this exciting adventure with you!
